Spain is at the forefront of photonic technology research, with ICFO (Institute of Photonic Sciences) leading the way. ICFO excels in developing photonic chips with applications in health, sustainability, quantum technologies, nanomaterials, and advanced computing, reinforcing Spain’s position in these strategic areas.

Recently, ICFO presented the PIXEurope project at Santander38, aiming to reduce Europe’s reliance on non-European chip suppliers. This initiative underscores Spain’s leadership in photonics and its contribution to European technological independence.

Lluís Torner, ICFO’s founder, was honored with the 2024 AMETIC Award for Business Excellence in Quantum Technologies, recognizing his significant contributions to the field.
