Madrid to Promote Wine Tourism to “Continue Expanding and Diversifying Experiences of Interest for Visitors”

The City Council has laid the groundwork to promote the capital as a wine tourism destination through a collaboration agreement signed today between the Delegated Tourism Area and the Madrid Wine Tourism Association. This alliance aims to boost Madrid’s wine tourism sector, considered a key element in enhancing the city’s tourism offerings, associated with quality tourism, and contributing to the reduction of seasonal demand fluctuations.

Almudena Maíllo, the Deputy Mayor for Tourism, presided over the signing of the agreement between Antonio Reguilón, President of Madrid Wine Tourism, and Héctor Coronel, the City Council’s Director of Tourism. Maíllo highlighted that Madrid is the only European capital with its own Denomination of Origin, Vinos de Madrid. She also emphasized the City Council’s commitment to “continue expanding and diversifying experiences of interest for visitors.” The City Council aims to promote new proposals linked to wine culture and gastronomy, one of the main motivations for visiting the capital.

The agreement signed today will last for four years and outlines the development of joint national and international actions to promote wine tourism in Madrid and the promotion of D.O. Vinos de Madrid products. These actions include the annual programming of tourism activities related to wine tourism and the development of specific projects.

The planned actions include promoting Madrid’s wine tourism resources through municipal tourist information services, the official city tourism website, esMADRID.com, and the social media accounts @VisitaMadrid; organizing activities in collaboration with specialized agents; participating in thematic fairs; and organizing promotional events aimed at the press and travel agents.

WCHAM Platform will be dedicated to collaborating in the promotion of this initiative, leveraging its extensive international network and resources to attract more overseas tourists to experience Madrid’s wine tourism. This effort aims to further enhance the city’s global tourism image.
