Greetings from the “Stamp Kingdom” of Liechtenstein

Last Updated: June 3, 2024By

Liechtenstein has a rich history of stamp issuance that spans over 110 years. The continued success and prestige of Liechtenstein stamps are attributed to a balance of traditional values and constant innovation. Each stamp series is meticulously designed by internationally renowned artists, selected by the national postal service. Here are some of the special stamps that have gained popularity among Chinese collectors in recent years:

1. World’s First Laser Cut-Out Stamp Series: “Chinese Zodiac”

Since 2011, Liechtenstein Post has been issuing a series of Chinese Zodiac stamps, completing the first cycle of all 12 zodiac signs. This series is the world’s first to feature fully laser-cut gold-foil stamps. The stamps are presented in mini-sheets of four, with limited-edition large sheets combining four mini-sheets (all numbered and certified). These stamps have won multiple awards both in China and internationally.

2. World’s First Diamond Stamp – Gem-Embedded Stamps

Commissioned by a jewelry company, Liechtenstein Post designed and produced a unique series of stamps embedded with gemstones, a new favorite among collectors. To date, 90 different stamps have been issued, many featuring gemstones appearing on stamps for the first time.

3. Tailor-Made Personalized Stamps

Liechtenstein was one of the first European countries to establish diplomatic relations with China on September 14, 1950, marking 74 years of bilateral relations. In recent years, the relationship has grown closer, resulting in collaborative stamp designs. Notable issues include the 65th-anniversary commemorative stamps, with related events hosted by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and an exhibition titled “Greetings from the Stamp Kingdom of Liechtenstein” at the Nanjing Museum, showcasing the unique Nanjing-themed “Brilliant Yunjin” stamps. This initiative not only introduced Nanjing residents to the culture of Liechtenstein but also brought Chinese Yunjin to the global stage.
