On May 9th, 2023, the World Chamber of Commerce provided assistance to the Shandong provincial government delegation headed by Mr. Bai Yugang, member of the Standing Committee of the Shandong Provincial Party Committee, during their visit to Spain. The event entitled “Confucius Hometown Hospitable Shandong” was successfully held, aimed at promoting Spanish cultural and tourism exchange.

It is our distinct honor to have welcomed prominent guests, including the Chief of Staff of the Spanish Institute of Tourism, the Director of the Madrid Tourism Bureau, and the Director of the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum, amongst others to this event. The Vice President of the World Chamber of Commerce and Industry (WCHAM) was also in attendance.

Minister Bai Yugang, and Chinese Ambassador to Spain, Wu Haitao attended this exchange event. The Chief of Staff of the Spanish National Tourism Administration, and the Director of the Madrid Tourism Bureau respectively delivered speeches expressing their keenness to visit and advance tourism exchanges between China and the West. At the same time, the Director of the Shandong Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism and the Director of the Shandong Provincial Cultural Relics Bureau were able to sign a strategic cooperation agreement with the executive director of the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum, adding momentum to future cultural tourism prospects.

Following this memorable event, the Shandong Provincial Party Committee visited the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum and had an engaging discussion with the curator. The exchange provided a fruitful opportunity for the enhancement of cultural tourism exchanges between China and the West, furthermore, stimulated new vitality in developing Shandong’s cultural tourism sector.
